Every organisation has exactly one Owner — the person with full control, including billing and organisation settings. When you need to hand that responsibility to someone else, you transfer ownership.

Transferring ownership is a deliberate, two-party action. It is never a simple role change: both the current owner and the new owner must confirm before anything changes, so an organisation is never left without an owner and ownership never moves by accident.

Before you start

  • Only the current owner can start a transfer.
  • The person you transfer to must already be a member of the organisation. If they are not, invite them first from the Users page and wait for them to accept.
  • Decide which role you will move to once you hand over ownership (for example Admin). You cannot remain an owner — an organisation has one owner at a time.

Starting a transfer

  1. Open your organisation and scroll to the Transfer ownership section.
  2. Choose the member who will become the new owner.
  3. Choose the role you will move to after the transfer completes.
  4. Start the transfer.

Nothing changes yet. Both you and the chosen member receive an email with a confirmation link.

Confirming the transfer

The transfer only completes once both parties confirm:

  • You (the current owner) confirm from the link in your email.
  • The new owner confirms from the link in their email.

Each person must be signed in as themselves to confirm. The order does not matter. Until both confirmations are in, you remain the owner and the organisation is unaffected.

Once the second person confirms, ownership changes immediately: the chosen member becomes the Owner, and you move to the role you selected. Both of you receive a confirmation email.

Cancelling a transfer

While a transfer is pending, the current owner can cancel it at any time from the Transfer ownership section. Cancelling stops the transfer — ownership stays exactly as it was.

Expiry

A pending transfer is valid for a limited time. If both parties have not confirmed before it expires, the transfer lapses automatically and ownership does not change. Simply start a new transfer if you still want to hand over ownership.
