Own Bahriya’s managed database and data-store line end to end — the way a business-unit owner owns a product. From the business case and roadmap for Valkey, MySQL, PostgreSQL and CouchDB, through their architecture and product design, to the code that ships them: you decide what we build, how it should work for the people who use it, and then you build it.

What you will own

  • Own the business proposition for the data-services line — who it is for, what it should become, and why it wins. You plan and design the roadmap that gets it there.
  • Set and own the roadmap for managed data services — which stores we offer, in what order, and to what standard.
  • Architect each service: provisioning, multi-region topology, backups and restore, versioning, and how it attaches to a customer project.
  • Own the product experience end to end — the Console, CLI, Terraform, and API surface for every data service, held to the same simplicity standard as the rest of the platform.
  • Implement across the whole stack: API, provisioning workflows, the deploy path, and the operational tooling that keeps it healthy.
  • Carry the service in production — reliability, performance, and the on-call reality of running data infrastructure people depend on.

What we look for

  • Deep, first-hand experience operating relational and non-relational data stores at scale — replication, backups, recovery, and the failure modes that matter.
  • The ability to design a system and then build it. You are equally at home in an architecture decision and in the codebase.
  • Comfort across the stack — API and backend engineering (we work primarily in PHP and Go), infrastructure automation, and the product thinking to make it all feel simple.
  • Sound product and prioritisation judgement — you can decide what is worth building and defend it.
  • The humility to be corrected and the integrity to correct the record yourself.

Nice to have

  • Experience building or operating a managed database product for others to consume.
  • Container orchestration and multi-region networking experience.
  • Infrastructure-as-code fluency (Terraform).

The arrangement

These apply to this and every role at Bahriya.

Remote, anywhere

Every role is fully remote. Work from wherever you are in the world — we engage on a consultancy basis, not by location.

Four-hour Dubai overlap

Bahriya runs on the Dubai working day. Wherever you are, we ask for at least four hours of daily overlap so we can work as one team, in real time.

Fluent English, spoken and written

We work and write in English across the whole team. Clear, fluent English — both spoken and written — is essential, because how you explain your thinking is part of the work.

Full-time or part-time

We would rather have the right person part-time than the wrong person full-time. Serious part-time candidates are genuinely welcome.

Here to build, not just employed

You work at Bahriya because you love making things that are meaningful and beautiful — not because you simply need a job. We hire for that difference, and it shows in everything we ship.

Quality over speed — always

We optimise for doing things well, not fast. We would always rather ship the right thing correctly than the quick thing twice. This is non-negotiable.

How to apply

Email us at careers@bahriya.cloud with Principal Product Architect — Database Services in the subject line. Tell us, in your own words, what you have built and owned — not just where you have worked. Links to real work speak louder than a CV. We read every application and reply.

Candidates only, please — no recruiters or agencies. We hire people directly and only respond to individuals applying on their own behalf.
